Fight The Future
Futurity is the measure of freedom promised and threatened in the ongoing collaboration and contestation of an ineradicable diversity of peers who share the world, from now emerging into next. This open or free futurity arises out of present practice, is "presenced" in social struggle, peer to peer. "The future," to the contrary, is a racket and nothing more, parochially owned by marginal moralizing communities of belief and self-appointed authoritative "elites" (most futurists, so-called, most egregiously, but also many technocrats, design gurus, members of the broadcast commentariat, and priestly authorities among the variously faithful, including not only fundamentalist sects but it sometimes seems, many of the more self-aggrandizing quarters of the computer science and economics professions) all of whom pretend to the power of prophesy while seeking to implement outcomes undemocratically to their preferential benefit.
